Let me introduce you the 2017 edition of Debating Security Plus, the fifth global online brainstorm organised by Friends of Europe from 26 – 28 September 2017.
Debating Security Plus will be held entirely online and is hosted on a specifically designed platform to help facilitate the participation of thousands from around the world. Past editions have gathered up to several thousand senior international participants and security experts: civilian and military, journalists, members of parliament, representatives of international organisations and civil society. Recommendations from previous security brainstorms fed into the policy thinking that shaped NATO's Strategic Concept in 2010 and the EU's Global Strategy in 2016.
This year we will examine how to counter the growth of radicalisation and global terrorism, the new challenges posed by hybrid and asymmetric warfare, nuclear proliferation, cyber defence and deterrence, realigning security and defence and the impact of climate change on conflict and mass migration.
Some of our confirmed VIP debaters so far include European Commissioner for Security Union Julian King; the Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sven Mikser; South African Secretary for Defence Dr. Sam Makhudu Gulube and United Nation’s Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Kate Gilmore, amongst others. Please find attached our event description with a full list as well a detailed overview of our topics of discussion and a link to our website here.
